At 75 years old and with more than 40 years of experience on the bench, Englishman Neil Warnock has been named coach of Scottish Aberdeen FC until the end of the season.

Warnock, who He coached 15 different teams among them Sheffield United (1999-2007), Leeds Utd (2012-2013), Crystal Palace at various stages (2007-2010 and 2014), Cardiff City (2016-2019) and, most recently, Middlesbrough FC (2020-2021) , joins the ‘reds’ after presiding over almost 2,000 games, more than any other English coach.

Surprising signing

Dave Cormack, president of the club, expressed his happiness at having someone with a “such an incredible management career” like Neil’s and revealed that it will be a key and significant part for the rest of the season.

“We hope Neil, Ronnie and the team will push hard in the remaining four months of the campaign, as we still have a lot at stake in the SPFL Premiership and the Scottish Cup,” highlighted the president.

An Englishman in Scotland

Warnock also expressed his delight at the new position. “I made no secret that I wanted to direct Scotland, So when I spoke to Dave and Alan and they asked me to help them, it felt like the perfect opportunity,” he confesses.

“From all indications, there’s a good group of youngsters here, and my job now is to get the best out of them. I’m looking forward to the challenge of being here at Aberdeen,” Warnock concluded.

Draw against leader Celtic temporarily

Aberdeen are eighth in the Scottish Premier, contested by 12 teams, after just one win in the last six rounds, although on Saturday they scratched a point at home to leaders Celtic with Peter Leven, temporarily following the sacking of Barry Robson.
