After a goalless draw in the first match of the fourth round of the English Cup, Nottingham Forest and Bristol City settled their places in the round of 16 of the English Football Cup from the penalty spot with victory for the former after signing the draw ( 1 -1) in 120 minutes of play.
Again, both teams pressed their options until the end. In total, they played 210 minutes between the two games and never broke the tie. A penalty shootout is required to award a win and it is Nottingham Forest, who will face Manchester United in the round of 16.
Only two goals were scored and both in the first quarter of an hour. The first, by Divock Origi after eight minutes, allowed Nottingham Forest to open the scoring. Later, Nuno Espírito Santo’s team could not prevent the equalizer after a quarter of an hour, the work of Jason Knight, after finishing a cross from Haydon Roberts at will.
Then, with no goals in the second half and extra time, Samuel Bell’s miss from the penalty spot, and successes by Gibbs-White, Hudson-Odoi, Williams, Niakhate and Awoniyi, qualified the Nottingham Forest for the next stage of the English Cup.
This is how the round of 16 matches will be
Nottingham Forest-Manchester United
Chelsea-Leeds (2nd)
Liverpool-Southampton (2nd)
Wolverhampton-Brighton
Luton-Manchester City
Bournemouth-Leicester (2nd)
