The French Ministry of Sports will meet on Monday with police and those responsible for European football to study the chaotic scenes that took place in Stade de France before and at the end of the Champions League on Saturday, Sports Minister Amélie Oudéa-Castéra said.
The final between Liverpool and Real Madrid began with a 35 -minute delay after police tried to stop people trying to enter the French national stadium without tickets, while some ticket holders complained they were not allowed to enter.
Reuters TV footage showed riot police chasing people out of the stadium as they fled and others being escorted away. Dozens of people were forced into the stadium area and others outside, including children, were tear-gassed by riot police, according to a Reuters witness.
The governing body of European football, UEFA, the French Football Federation (FFF) and the police will attend the meeting.
Oudéa-Castéra said on Twitter that the purpose of the meeting was to analyze the incidents that took place and “learn lessons for our major sporting events.” France will host the Olympic Games in 2024 and the Rugby World Cup in 2023.
British Sports Minister Nadine Dorries and Liverpool chief executive Billy Hogan have called for an investigation into the stadium scenes.
