The Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov, second favorite, maintains a favorable face-to-face in Russian Karen Khachanovwhich he won again at the ATP 250 indoor tournament in Marseille, where he reached the final he would play with the Frenchman. Ugo Humbertwho gave the session a surprise by eliminating the current champion, the Polish Hubert Hurkaczfirst favorite
Two former champions of the Marseille competition, Hurkacz last year and Khachanov in 2018, bid farewell to the competition in the semifinals.
Dimitrov took the measure of Khachanov. Before the Marseille meeting he had beaten him four times when they faced each other. This time the Russian took the initiative but the Bulgarian turned the situation around and three hours later closed out a new victory, the fifth, 6-7(3), 6-4 and 7-6(5).
This is the second final of 2024 for Dimitrov, winner in Brisbane and seeking the tenth victory of his career. He will face local Humbert who starred in the surprise of the session by defeating the first seed, Hurkacz by doubles 6-4 in one hour and 23 minutes.
Unlike Khachanov, Humbert broke the spell on the Pole with whom he lost the three times they met on a track. A seventh straight victory on the roof took Humbert to the fifth final of his career. He didn’t lose anything. The latter, in Metz last year, was his fourth title.
