Devynne Charlton, new 60m hurdles record holder, will run in Madrid

The Madrid Meeting continues to expand its lineup of stars. The grand final of the world indoor circuit to be held in the Spanish capital on February 23 will feature a Bahamian presence Devynne Charltonwho on Sunday broke the world record in the 60 meter hurdles.

The 28-year-old Caribbean athlete established a new universal record in Millrose Games from New York with a period of 7.67one hundred less than the previous record held by Swede Susanna Kallur since 2008.

Charlton will try to reduce his time on the court Gallur Municipal Sports Centrewith American Grant Holloway already holding the men’s world record for the same event with 7.29.

The Bahamians will have important rivals, such as the Dutch Nadine Visserworld bronze in 2018 and winner in Madrid in 2021, and the current continental distance champion, the Finnish Reetta Hurskewinner at Gallur in 2023, and 110 hurdles, Polish Pia Skrzyszowskathe Danish Mette Gravesgaardthe Hungarian Luca Kozak and the irish Sarah Lavin. The Spanish leader of the year was also there, Xenia Benach.
