Adam Yates (UAE) won the Tour of Oman on Wednesday, winning the 5th and final stageon top of Jabal Al Akhdhar, who served as the final judge of the test.
Third in the last Tour de France, the 31-year-old Briton achieved his first victory in this competition at the beginning of the season, replaced the American Matteo Jorgenson.
Part of a group of breakaways, he proved to be the strongest rider on the final climb of this 72 km stage, covering the final 5.7 km at 10.5% at a devilish pace.
At the wheel of the Czech Jan Hirt (Soudal Quick-Step), who accelerated in the last two kilometers to catch the Dutchman Huub Artz (Intermarché-Wanty), who left alone, Yates made the difference in the last hectometrescrossing the finish line with a comfortable lead over his two rivals of the day.
In the general classification, the Briton is 19 seconds ahead of Hirt and in 39 seconds the New Zealander Finn Fisher-Black (UAE), who was still leading the day before.
