The 105 cyclists from the fifteen teams registered in the 70th edition of the Vuelta a Andalucía, whose first stage between Almuñécar and Cádiar (Granada) was suspended this Wednesday “due to the lack of Civil Guard troops due to the demonstrations of farmers” , is waiting to see if the race will finally be held.
The participating teams are awaiting news in their respective concentration hotels on the Costa Tropical of Granada from the organization, which is still meeting to find alternatives for the next four stages of the Andalusian round.
Several teams took advantage of the opening day’s cancellation to exercise, including Burgos-BH, which set a training session of one hundred kilometers before returning to their concentration hotel in Salobreña, a municipality about 15 kilometers from Almuñécar and where the seven cyclists of this sports group ate, their technicians and mechanical assistants and are waiting for news.
José Manuel Díaz from Jaen, a rider from this UCI category team who is competing for the fifth time in the Vuelta a Andalucía, told EFE that “it is a shame that the first stage was not held” and explained that they were in the expectation of decision adopted by the organization in the dispute of the other four remaining stages.
“We are waiting for the organization to inform the teams what will happen in the following stages. I maintain the hope that the Vuelta a Andalucía will be held in the four remaining days,” he indicated.
