The first favorite, the Italian Jannick Sinnerface the Dutch Tallon Griekspoor in the semifinals of the tournament Rotterdam after getting through the quarterfinals against the Canadian Milos Raonicwho left the match injured at the end of the second game of the second set.
The Canadian has yet to find physical stability and left the match due to injury after losing the first set in a tiebreaker 7-6 (4) and in the second set tied at one game. Raonic, however, has an initial up his sleeve. He had two set points, but Sinner saved them with a serve.
Sinner managed to overcome his thirteenth straight match. The champion of Australian Opena finalist last year in this competition, is within reach of third place in the world rankings, which he can secure if he reaches the final.
Raonic only lasted one hour and five minutes on court. He has played twelve official games since returning to competition after nearly a year away from the circuit due to injuries.
The Italian will face Tallon Griekspoor in the semifinals, again defeating Finnish Emil RUusuvuori 7-5, 7-6 (4). The Dutchman has never lost against the Finn in four matches.
The sole local survivor is aiming for his third title, the first in 2024, after achievements in Hertogenbosch and Pune, both last year. Shevchenko, a finalist this year in Hong Kong, was left without aspirations.
On the other side of the picture, the Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrovsixth favourite, and the Australian Alex de Minaurfifth, bid for the other place for the title.
De Minaur, who leaves Rotterdam as the ninth player in the world, the highest position of his career, gained revenge for the round of 16 of the Australian Open last month and beat Russian Andrey Rublev, second seed and Rotterdam champion in 2021 , 7 -6 (2), 3-6 and 6-4.
Oceanic, who is looking to reach his first final in 2024 and extend the honors in his history to eight, reached the indoor semifinals for the first time at an ATP 500 after two and a half hours of play.
A third win in five games against Rublev, this year’s champion in Hong Kong, installed De Minaur as an opponent for Dimitrov, who defeated recently naturalized Russian Kazakh Alexander Shevchenko in two hours, 7-6 (2), 3-6 and 6-4.
This is the first time the two have met. A fair match they played and allowed the Brisbane champions to regain hope of achieving a new conquest this season.
