Villarreal coach Marcelino García Toral regretted this Friday, after the draw against Getafe (1-1), that a set-piece action punished his team and prevented victory.
The Asturian praised Villarreal’s play in the first half and described it as “unfair” for them to go to the locker room defeated.
“It’s hard to assimilate that the rival without doing anything is leading, but the football is effective,” explained the coach, admitting that in the second half “the game was equal” against a good team.
“I didn’t like the second half as much as the first because it was difficult to play better,” Marcelino said, stressing Villarreal’s problems with set-piece actions.
“We went from losing a lot at home to controlling games, but we lacked efficiency,” reiterated the coach, who said he was “proud” of the team’s trajectory.
“I’m calm, but I’m also annoyed because I still want to win at home. We missed the icing on the cake and the opponent penalized us,” added the Asturian, who assured that “it is not fair for the players” that Villarreal has added only seven of the last 15 possible points.
