After studying each other’s punches and feints in the early rounds, Foster began to take control in rounds six and seven, landing power punches in one won’t go which is starting to fade.
Foster hit Nova with a barrage of cutting right hands in the ninth to begin extending his lead and punctuated his performance by dropping him with a left hook in the final round.
One judge scored it 113-114 for Nova, which was overturned by scores of 115-112 and 116-111 for Foster.
Foster said: “I don’t want to make any excuses, but when I threw my right hand, his elbow hit the middle of my bicep, so it tightened up. But everything is okay.”
“I lost my rhythm tonight. Everything is fine. We came home with a win, so I can’t complain. I am a 12-round fighter and I know how to make judgments during the fight. So he was strong at first, but I found my rhythm and his timing, and then I started to get better.
“Navarrete is busy. I will deal with it Lamont Roach Jr. or to Oscar winner Valdez vs. Liam Wilson”.
Nova said: “O’Shaquie is a good fighter. He hit me, but I slipped (in the 12th round). I lost my balance. Don’t hurt me. The fight would have been a draw if it hadn’t happened. This is boxing .I know you probably think I’m not that good. But you see I’m a good boxer.
“I hope you see me here again. I am a world class contender. O’Shaquie, we can do it again. If not, I can fight Navarrete or anyone.”
