The Doha tournament started this Monday with victory of Alexander Davidovich. The tennis player from Malaga made his debut in the doubles table with the Finnish Emil Ruusuvuori, won the double 7-6 against the pair formed by the Honduran Marcelo Arévalo and the Croatian Mate Pavic in an even duel decided by small details.
After a rather cold start in which he dropped his serve in the second game, Davidovich stepped up as the minutes ticked away to become decisive in the tiebreaker by adding the first three points.
The second set followed the same trend on a hot and windy afternoon in the Qatari capital. Serve dominated the returns throughout the set until it reached 6-6 which gave way to a tiebreak.
Again the Spanish-Finnish pair started better, but this time Arévalo and Pavic managed to balance the score and reach the change of sides with 3-3, moment where Davidovich came forward again to close out the match and advance to the quarterfinalswhere they will face the winner of the match between Musett and Sonego this Tuesday along with Lammons and Withrow, second seeds.
Davidovich’s debut in the individual draw is also on Tuesday. They will face 18-year-old Czech Jakub Mensikone of the revelations of last season.
