Álvaro Ortiz had a strong start to the second round at the Mexico Open at Vidanta in Puerto Vallarta and the Mexican is co-leader with 131 strokes (-11), along with three other players, after carding a card of 64. Alvaro is more younger brother Carlos Ortiz, a PGA Tour winner signed with Saudi-funded LIV Golf.
Ortiz held the windy Vallarta Vidanta, and finished the day tied with Jake Knapp, Matt Wallace and Sami Valimaki. Wallace shot 65 and Valimaki 67. Ortiz, who grew up in Guadalajara, has been trying to find his way since leaving Arkansas.
He has already played the Masters as the 2019 Latin American amateur champion, and qualified for the United States Open in 2021 at Torrey Pines. This year he returns to the Korn Ferry Tour after splitting time last year on the Asian Tour, Mexican Tour and Americas Tour.
Jorge Campillo from Extremadura He dropped a few positions after delivering a card of 70 strokes, for a 137 (-5) total, and six strokes off the lead.
