The former player of Sporting, Tenerife and Zaragoza Juanele, 52 years old, was admitted to the hospital after suffering a stroke, as announced by the Asturian media ‘La Nueva España’ and ‘El Comercio’. The former footballer reportedly appeared ill at a restaurant in Gijón last night as he was about to have dinner at a cider house in La Arena.
The player, who was conscious, suffered a stroke – according to eyewitnesses – after falling asleep in his leg and arm, affecting an artery. Immediately, 112 was called and the former player was rushed by ambulance to HUCA, where he was stabilized pending tests to be carried out in the next few hours.
‘Juanele’ trained at Sporting, where he made his debut in the first team. In addition to the red-and-white club, he played – always in the First Division and on several occasions competing in continental competitions – for Tenerife and Zaragoza, a club where he won two Copas del Rey, but during during his time in the Maño team he started having problems and was diagnosed with bipolar disorder which ended his sports career at the age of 35.
