The American company Nike can sell women’s goalkeeper shirts of the national team Australia during the last World Cup held in this ocean country, Mackenzie Arnoldafter months of criticism from fans for not being able to buy the jacket, the Australian federation reported on Monday.
“The support we’ve felt, as goalkeepers, from our fans over the last year has been absolutely incredible,” the goalkeeper said in a statement published by Football Australia.
“It means a lot to me that we start another great year for our team and our sport, knowing that our families, friends and fans will always support us and wear our jerseys with pride ,” said Arnold, elevated to national hero status for his saves in the penalty shootout against France in the quarterfinals.
During the Women’s World Cup, held between July and August 2023 in Australia and New Zealand, Nike did not sell the goalkeeper jerseys of the teams they sponsored, which led to strong criticism of the sports company.
After the World Cup, the North American company agreed to sell some of the shirts from countries like England, France and the United States, but again forgot about the Australian team.
Finally, the Australian federation announced today that it has reached an agreement with Nike so that the purple goalkeeper jersey will be available to the public starting tomorrow for about 125 Australian dollars (about 82 US dollars or more than 75 euros). EFE
