The Slovenian Tadej Pogacar will open the 2024 season leading the UAE Emirates next Saturday at Street Bianchewhile Spanish Juan Ayuso will compete again this Wednesday at Laigueglia trophy.
pogacar, double champion of the Tour de France and winner of 3 Lombardies, Liège-Bastogne and Tour of Flanders Among his 63 victories as a professional, lead a strong team to what will be his season debutwith the Emirati team, which already has 10 victories in its locker for the year.
The Slovenian star will be joined in the “sterrato” test by Mexican Isaac del Toro, Filippo Baroncini, Jan Christen, Marc Hirschi, Domen Novak and Tim Wellens.
“After seeing a strong start from the team, I can’t wait to start competing again.. I was patient and took a slightly slower approach this year and started running a little later. It’s going to be a long season, including two grand tours, new territory for me in that sense. But I’m excited about the prospect, it’s something new,” Pogacar said.
Regarding the Strade Bianche, Pogacar declared that it is a race that he loves and of which he has fond memories. “I have prepared really well and we will fight for victory. “You never really know how you will be in the first races and there will be good rivals, but I think with our team we can be ready for anything,” he added.
This weekthe UAE is in two classics, the first this Tuesday in Le Samyn, in Belgium, and on Wednesday in the Laigueglia Trophy, in Italy.
Álvaro Hodeg, Antonio Morgado, Michael Vink, Luca Giami, Jonathan Guatibonza and Gibbe Staes will run in Le Samyn.
They will appear on stage at the Laigueglia Trophy the Spaniard Juan Ayuso, recent winner of the Faun Ardeche and third in the Drome ClassicFilippo Baroncini, Jan Christen, Alessandro Covi, Marc Hirschi, Rafal Majka and Diego Ulissi.
