Quique Llopis: “My goal is to get to the final, but it will be very expensive”

Date:

The athlete of Valencia Quique Llopis (Bellreguard, 2000) explained in an interview with EFE that his goal to Glasgow World Cup (Scotland) this week to reach the final and less certain mark but he is also convinced that the Spanish record he shares with Orlando Ortega (7.48) will be surpassed in a short time.

“My goal is to get to the final, but it will be very expensive”said Llopis, who looked in good shape. “I was coming from less to more and in Madrid last week the score I was looking for came out,” he said after stopping the clock at 7.51 in that test and thus setting his best season mark so far.

A year ago, Llopis equaled the Spanish record of 7.48 for the event set by Orlando Ortega in 2017 and he believes he or his teammate Asier Martínez will soon beat him.

“This Friday I saw that I was close to that 7.48 and Asier was even closer. I am sure that without this world championship it will soon be taken down,” he said.

Llopis suffered a spectacular fall before the summer that left him unable to compete for months, while Martínez also had physical and mental problems that prevented him from doing so. and Llopis was delighted that the two were now back at such an event.

“I want to share the national team with Asier again. and more after everything that happened. He’s a great friend, we’re both in good shape and it’s incredible to share a final,” he gushed.

Because the Valencian emphasized that “the brand is not what is important in a World Cup” and that in championships like the one in Glasgow what counts is “the position” although he admitted that “in the end the normal thing is that both are linked.”

Llopis says she’s more excited than nervous, although she has some. “A big competition always has something new, They are bigger than before a ‘meeting’ because the World Cup is every two years and you want to make the most of it. I think it’s good to have them but you have to control them,” he said.

“In my case what I do is warm up very focused on my race and my feelings. If I see that I’m doing well in the warm-up, that gives me a lot of peace of mind,” he explains.

Llopis admitted that he is more comfortable with the 110 meter distance run outdoors. “60 meters is not my strength, I’m more comfortable at 110 because it’s not my strength at the start and there it’s not very decisive because you run farther,” he reflected.
