A rat recently caused chaos in air traffic in Sri Lanka. An Airbus was grounded for three days until the animal was found. For example, care had to be taken to ensure that the rat had not nibbled on any cables, according to an airline representative.
The animal was discovered during a flight from Lahore, Pakistan, to Sri Lanka’s capital Colombo, a Srilankan Airlines representative said on Tuesday. The Airbus A330 was subsequently searched repeatedly. After three days, the rat was finally found dead and the plane was released.
Airline completely in debt
The three-day break caused major air traffic disruption in the Indian Ocean island nation. The airline is completely in debt and has a total of 23 aircraft, three of which have not been used for a year. The reason: the necessary regular engine checks can no longer be paid for.
Aviation Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva now fears that the latest incident could also scare off “the few possible investors”.
