Yuki Tsunoda had a moment of fame in Bahrain GP but not as he would have liked. The Japanese driver, late in the race, had to give up his place Daniel Ricciardohis partner in Visa Cash App RB, by orders from the Faenza team wall. The Japanese, who finished 14th, didn’t like it, and he communicated it in a way that could have ended very badly.
At the end of the race, as the drivers headed back to the pits, Tsunoda crossed paths with Ricciardo while braking. And if that wasn’t enough, he overtook him on the straight, passing just a few millimeters behind the Australian’s car. Pretty close and we’re talking about the dumbest accident in a long time.
“To be honest, I didn’t understand what the team was thinking. So, I have to understand what they were thinking, but right now I don’t understand. We’ll have to check what his thoughts are, actually. I really can not understandTsunoda explained at the end of the race.
After all, at first Tsunoda ignored what they asked him on the radio but in the end he gave 13th place to Daniel. But Japanese radio is fuming. “Are you hesitating me?” he said at first. “He’s not going fast at all,” he continued referring to Ricciardo when he passed him.
It was not the best start for the RB team when the simulations indicated a better result. For now they will go to Jeddah with a clean record and much to improve. Both in terms of the performance of the car and the atmosphere within the team, what we saw.
