Britain’s Dillian Whyte has been allowed to resume his boxing career after a contaminated supplement was found to have failed an anti-doping test last year ahead of his fight with countryman Anthony Joshua, Sky Sports reported on Sunday.
Whyte was devastated after an “adverse finding” from his random doping test by the Voluntary Anti-Doping Association led to the cancellation of a heavyweight fight with former world champion Joshua scheduled for August last year.
However, an investigation revealed that he was the victim of contamination from a nutritional supplement, according to Sky Sports.
The network claims to have seen documentation showing that a forensic expert concluded that Whyte was “the victim of a contaminated supplement that did not disclose (the contaminant) its ingredients.”
Whyte, 35, who lost a title challenge to WBC world champion Tyson Fury in April 2022, said he was “angry and disappointed” and spent a lot of time trying to piece together where he went wrong with his diet. .
“It’s very difficult, because I know he’s innocent, but then you can’t talk, you can’t say anything,” Whyte told Sky Sports.
“You have to be professional, trust the process, trust the lawyer and trust the people around you. It’s been tough, but tough times make tough men. I’m more relieved than anything, but of course “Me too” I’m angry because I’m big the cost to me. The most important thing is that I had the opportunity to beat AJ (Joshua). It’s all secondary, but it’s mixed emotions,” he added.
In the end, Joshua defeated Finn Robert Helenius by KO in the seventh round.
Whyte also said he is seeking damages from the company that made the supplement. “I lost a lot of money and we’re looking for compensation for all the money I lost, to try to get some kind of redemption for my career,” he added.
