A group of German holidaymakers wanted to enjoy themselves in the Tyrolean Zillertal on Saturday. But the toboggan run ended with a 32-year-old hospitalized with serious injuries. The accident started when part of the group left the toboggan run despite warnings.
The accident happened in the Spieljoch ski area in Fügenberg. There is a toboggan run that leads into the valley. The German holiday group, consisting of a total of 31 ladies and gentlemen, was out on rental sleds on Saturday morning. After some time, 15 participants came up with a fatal idea.
Panic because the sled was going way too fast
Despite warning signs, the Germans left the toboggan run and hurtled down a red-marked slope. It happened as it was supposed to happen: the sleds went faster and faster on the hard slope. A 32-year-old woman fell from the sled in panic. One of her companions also jumped off. His abandoned sled then rammed the 32-year-old. She suffered a broken tibia and fibula.
The seriously injured person received first aid from the snow rescue team. She then had to be flown by helicopter to Schwaz hospital.
