The Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) has increased from seven to nine the number of foreign players each club can register to play in the Liga, as the entity reported on Tuesday. It was decided by the representatives of the 20 teams that will play this year in the first division and the leaders of the CBF, who met this Tuesday in Rio de Janeiro to vote on the format and changes planned for the 2024 Brazilian Championship.
The Brazilian League, the most powerful in South America, will start on April 13 and end on December 8. Among the new features approved for this season, in addition to increasing the limit of foreigners that each club can register, is that referees will explain VAR decisions to fans via the stadiums’ public address system.
On the other hand, for the second time in history, the Brazilian Championship will stop on FIFA dates, that is, when the national team plays, a long-standing demand of the clubs.
“The meeting was very useful. CBF is always open to dialogue, always in favor of debate. You can be sure that we will continue to work to strengthen Brazilian football more and more,” said CBF president Ednaldo Rodrigues. mentioned in a note.
Palmeiras, led by Portuguese coach Abel Ferreira, will be the defending champions, which they achieved last year after a spectacular return of points against Botafogo late in the season.
