Pedro Acosta He is one of the great protagonists of Qatar Grand Prix, the opening of the 2024 MotoGP season. The 19-year-old from Murcia has been called the heir to the big names in the championship and in his first race in the premier category he made it clear why.
Despite finishing in ninth position, his first half of the race was exceptional, coming back from 11th position to fourth battling head-to-head with drivers of Marc Márquez’s stature. Then I paid dearly for pushing too hard and the positions fell. However, the letter of introduction of ‘Jaws’ is wonderful.
“It took as long as it should take. In the end, it’s like when you lose your virginity. It all starts out great and then it’s a disaster. It’s the same. I didn’t finish the story properly today. The truth is that going into the first race, overtaking people, that’s what I liked the most, I won’t tell you about Márquez… you have to be very happy,” he told the evacuated media , with MD.
“It’s easier to overtake compared to yesterday. Since I have an empty tank on the Sprint, the bike is more active, it moves a little and I think everything runs better. With less weight and better fit, we got around the place more.”
A confidence I missed
One of the curiosities of Acosta’s explanations is how he felt to be overtaken easily in his first race with the best. He said he has sensations that are not in Moto2.
“Since I’m not in Moto3 I’m not very confident about overtaking. That thing about coming back and launching knowing the bike was going to be discontinued in three years because I didn’t feel it.”
“The error is management. Not tires, but fuel and whatnot. The start was better than yesterday, except that Miller passed me very fast and very close. The bike started moving and between cutting and stabilizing I lost a lot of time,” he said.
For the next appointments, Acosta asked for a new device to lower the bike in a straight line and faster, because the one he had now didn’t fit his hands. He explained that it was too high on him and it bothered him when giving gas.
