New trouble with Patrick Levevere in the middle. If a few days ago he again made some nasty comments about one of his star runners, Julian Alaphilippe, where he accused her of drinking too much and partying too much, and even made some unkind comments to her husband, the Women’s Tour de France director Marion Roussenow some of his words from 2023 where he did not exactly praise women’s cycling, returning in a certain way to those that when asked about the possibility of creating a women’s team he said that “I am not a center of society.”
And this Thursday International Cycling Union (UCI), cycling’s highest governing body, pulled him by the ears again.
In a press release, the UCI points out that “following a report to Mr. Patrick Lefevere (…) for public comments considered insulting to women, the Ethics Commission confirmed that the violations of articles 5 and 6.1 of the Code was made. of UCI Ethics in two cases.”
The UCI therefore asks “Mr Lefevere to make a public statement acknowledging the inappropriate nature of his statements and apologizing for them.”
And, pending the absence of this public declaration, Patrick Levevere receives a fine of 20,000 Swiss francs (about 20,800 euros), which will also be imposed if he commits “similar violations of the UCI Code of Ethics in the next three years,” the UCI added.
We will have to wait, then, to see whether or not Lefevere raises his voice about the sanction received.
