A record-breaking Bulega leads the first day of the SBK test in Barcelona

The Italian rookie of the official aruba.it Ducati team, Nicolo Bulegadominated the first of two days of testing in Barcelona held at the Barcelona-Catalunya circuit a week before the second round of the Superbike World Championship.

Second place in the competition after the Australian round made a best time of 1’40″304, beating the Turkish BMW by 0″464 Toprak Razgatlioglu and 0″725 to his teammate and eventual two-time world champion Álvaro Bautista, who did an important 103 laps for the setup with the ballast he had to load on his Panigale. Sam Lowes was fourth on 0.752 despite a crash at turn 10 causing a later technical problem, and Jonathan Rea on 1.351 completed the day’s top-5. Eleventh leader of the 2024 World Cup Alex Lowes at 1’41″802 to 1″498. His day was altered by a crash at Turn 10 with half an hour remaining in the session, which caused the red flags to appear for several minutes.

Bulegawhich completed 72 laps, the best of the last three sectors of the circuit and in the first the former MotoGP Andrea Iannone who finished 12th in 1″532.

It was a difficult day for Honda, as both Iker Lecuona (Team HRC) and his teammate Xavi Vierge had technical problems in the morning. The two motorcycles stopped almost at the same time which changed the planned program. Lecuona left the circuit before the end of the test day, still recovering from his shoulder injury, while Vierge returned to the track with his other bike. Lecuona finished 21st, with his teammate two places ahead.
