The pivot uses personal reasons to make the decision
Augusto Lima announced this Thursday that he will not renew with UCAM Murcia CB. The center, one of the pillars of the university team, used personal reasons to make a decision that surprised fans after confirming its continuity a few months ago.
“I ask you to respect it. I know many of you won’t understand, but that’s me,” the player said at a press conference, where he also thanked the club for opening the doors for him. “My team has glowed again, my team is at its best and now I can fly,” he admitted when asked by the media about the reason for his change of mind.
The player acknowledged that it was difficult to make the decision “because of the feeling I have here”, adding that he is leaving with the satisfaction that he has achieved his goals. “I want to open up to the market and see what can happen to me,” he added, after assuring he has no offer on the table at the moment.
The Brazilian managed to become the second-highest-rated player in UCAM Murcia CB history, surpassing Bobby Martin’s rating, who held the club’s second-best record to date. Lima crossed that mark of 1,468 PIR and had only Ralph McPherson’s mark in front of him and he had time before him to surpass it and inaugurate that historic achievement on an individual level, something he just certified.
Augusto Lima arrived at UCAM Murcia CB in the 2013/2014 season of Unicaja Málaga and his impact on the university team discipline was immediate. In his first season, he didn’t take long to demonstrate the success his integration meant and in the 30 games he played, he averaged around 14 PIR credits per game.
In the current 2021/2022 campaign, Augusto Lima is still a defining player in UCAM Murcia CB’s schedules. His involvement and work contributed to the university team’s classification for the Copa del Rey, where he continued to play a leading role.
