The Ethiopian Yamif Kejelcha, two-time world indoor 3,000 meter champion, won the arm wrestling against Ugandan Joshua Cheptegei this Saturday in the 10 kilometers of Laredo and won with a time of 26 minutes and 37 seconds, the lowest Olympic mark that brings him closer to the Paris 2024 Games.
Cheptegei, a three-time outdoor 10,000 meter world champion, also achieved the lowest Olympic mark. He was second with a time of 26.53.
Both, however, could not beat the world record currently held by the Kenyan Rhonex Kipruto (26.24) despite the fact that the ‘hares’ imposed a strong speed in the first five kilometers.
Kejelcha slowed down after the seventh kilometer and Cheptegei couldn’t get what they were both looking for.
The podium was also completed by Ethiopian Addisu Yihune, who was just behind the leader with a final time of 27.28.
In the women’s category, the winner was the German Konstanze Klosterhalfen with a time of 31:07, ahead of Kenyan Purity Kajuju (32:24) and Spaniard Irene Sánchez-Escribano (31:35).
