At the beginning of the year, with Luis García, I started playing as the third center back. Then Ramis came and he really started to put more in the lane. Manolo’s system is very similar to Luis’s. I want to play in the same way, both in the youth teams and in the first team I played in both. I adapt to what the coach asks of me.
From playing 166 minutes last season, he has surpassed 2,000 this season. Did you expect this fame?
No, no… At the beginning of the season I had the option to go on loan. In the end, because of the circumstances and for Luis García, who wanted me in the team, and for the club, I stayed. I did not expect that there would be such continuity. I am very grateful, both to Luis and Ramis and to the club for the trust. Now also at Manolo.
How close is this transition?
When I arrived, when I was playing the U-23 Africa Cup with Morocco, I didn’t know if I would be 100% in the first team, if I would have minutes… And in the end, at my age, what I need is minutes. It was close, but after talking with the coach and the sports director we agreed that they would trust me. And that, if I win, they will bet on me, because they know the potential I have.
In Morocco, where they can compete in the Olympic Games, they have a luxurious reinforcement: Brahim Díaz.
We already know what kind of footballer he is. Needless to say, this will raise the level of choice. Since meeting Morocco in the last World Cup, people are learning more about us. And having a player of this caliber with us makes people more interested. He is a player of an amazing level.
