After winning his second consecutive Indian Wells on Sunday, Carlos Alcaraz signed off with a near-perfect debut Saturday at the Miami Open and beat fellow Spaniard Roberto Carballés (n.64) in the second round 6-2 and 6-1 in one hour and 25 minutes.
In the third round awaits him, on Monday, the Frenchman Gael Monfils (47)who came back from Australian Jordan Thompson (n.34) 6-7(3), 6-1 and 6-2 in two hours and 14 minutes.
Alcaraz beat Monfils, the only precedent of the two for now, which took place in the 2022 Indian Wells Round of 16.
“It’s going to be a really tough game. Gael plays good tennis. He has beaten important tennis players this year. I have to be ready to play against Gael,” said the Spaniard this Saturday in a press conference.
On the other hand, the Murcian assured that it is not easy to change the desert of California for the conditions in Florida.
“It’s hard in the humidity, on the court, on the balls, on everything. It was difficult to adapt my game to these conditions But I think I did a good job. “I am very happy with my performance,” he said.
