The French Paul Lapeira (Decathlon Ag2r), winner of second stage of Itzuliaconsidered his sprint victory in Kanbo “excellent”, representing his third victory of the season.
“Three weeks ago I won two races, butNow it’s a WorldTour test, so it is at a higher level. Winning here is great, I’m very happy to have achieved it,” commented the 23-year-old Fougères-born cyclist.
Lapeira, recent winner of the Loire Classic and the Cholet Agglo Tour, tried to win with a breakaway at the end, but the spoils were achieved due to speed.
“With 1.5 kilometers to go I tried to stand out, but I couldn’t, so I stopped. Bruno Armirail took advantage of his moment and brought me up to 200 meters from the finish line, and then I launched my sprint and it was enough to win,” he concluded.
