The Association of Professional Tennis Players (ATP) During the season, it will test a series of rules that it will introduce in the doubles modality, starting with the test at the Masters 1000 Mutua Madrid Open, which will be held from April 24 to May 5 at the Caja Mágica.
The ATP wants to attract players focused on singles, and to this end the doubles table, of 32 teams, will have space reserved for 16 couples that can be accessed through the ‘singles’ ranking and not couples.
And, as another novelty, the development of the competition will focus on five days, from Tuesday to Saturday of the second week. Although, sometimes big stars sign up for doubles, but because they use it as a test before entering singles.
One of the intentions is to reduce the time of meetings, so ‘dead’ spaces will be cut. Between points, 25 to 15 seconds, as long as the exchange is less than four strokes. Otherwise, 25 is kept to draw.
Interchange breaks on the side of the track will be minimal.
And fans can move around the stands at their convenience, with or without a game in progress.
