Juan Ayuso (UAE), second overall after chaotic fourth stage of Itzuliaregretted the fall that caused the top favorites to withdraw, Primoz Roglic, Remco Evenepoel and Jonas Vingegaardand said what it meant “lose the appeal of the race.”
“We lost our attraction to career, now I can’t compete with these great runners who had to retire today. Now it’s time to move on and let everyone play,” the UAE leader said at the finish line.
Ayuso, now second overall behind Dane Mattias Skeljmose, escaped the fall that occurred 33 km from the finish line, but saw his teammate Jay Vine involved in the accident.
“It was a very hard fall, I was in and I escaped. I saw my partner roll over Jay Vine. It’s a shame what happened,” he commented.
“Each port has its own thing, but at any moment it can happen, for example, yesterday I fell in a straight line. These things happen in cycling, it is always a dangerous sport and there are always falls ,” he concluded. .
