Kopecky made history by winning the Paris Roubaix wearing the rainbow jersey

Date:

The Belgian Lotte Kopecky (SD Worx) was imposed on 4th edition of the women’s Paris Roubaix argued between Denain and Roubaix with a route of 148.5 kilometers, the first in history to win the “Hell of the North” including the world champion jersey.

Finishing in 6, Kopecky won for speed with a time of 3h.47.14, at an average of 39.2 km/hour, followed by the Italian. Elisa Balsamo (Lidl) and the British Georgi Pfeiffer (DSM).

Great victory for Kopecky (Rumst, 28 years old), current world champion, with 39 victories on his record, including 2 Tour of Flanders and 2 Strade Bianche.

Fast start, 37 kilometers in the first hour and several falls, like the defending champion, the Canadian Alison Jackson. The race didn’t really start until 86 km from the finish line, along the first cobbled stretch from Hornaing to Wandignies, when the favorites emerged for the lead.

The proximity of the main “pavé” sections stimulated the pace and deployed the first approaches. With 49 minutes left, Kopecky, Vos and Pfeiffer were leading, but they were caught on the edge of Mons-en-Pévèle3 km sector of cobblestones.

From the first attacks, a group of 25 runners emerged who were about to play the race. Had SD Worx Kopecky and Wiebeshe Visma three runners with Marianne Vos and Lidl another 3 with Balsamo and Lucinda Brand. Movistar is represented by Cuban Arlenis Sierra.

A series of attacks left 6 runners in the lead before facing the legendary Carrefour de l’Arbre (2.1 km of cobblestones)17 from the finish line. Kopecky, Vos, Balsamo, Van Dijk, Kraak and Pfeiffer. The large chasing group has already lost half a minute, and the options of linking up with the race leader.

Lidl, along with Balsamo and Van Dijk, had the majority in the group of 6, but when push came to shove, Kppecky made their efforts futile. They all came to the velodrome to discuss the victory. Van Dijk launched Balsamo, Vos followed, but Kopecky accelerated on the outside to win.

Kopecky succeeded the Canadian on the list of winners Alison Jackson, won in 2023
