The outlet center in Parndorf (Burgenland) is expanding its opening hours. Super for customers, in many cases not reasonable for employees: a store operator gives the problems for free.
Last year, 7.2 million looked at the designer’s outlet in Parndorf. That is 6.1 percent more than in 2023. Turnover was increased by 6.9 percent. It is therefore the most economically successful year since the opening in 1998. This shopping complex is employed by a good 2,000 people. The share of local employees at the largest private employer in Burgenland is 42 percent.
The continuous plus of the proceeds is not least due to the extensive opening hours. The European headquarters of the Mcarthurglen points of sale offers them. So also, on August 20 to 11 p.m.
And when should the employee sleep?
“We are really at the limit,” says a store operator who wants to remain anonymous. She wants to have noticed: “Sleeping is well overvalued in these gentlemen. What kind of capitalist idiocy is that?” She calculates: before 11.30 pm the employee does not come bankrupt. Then she drives an hour and 20 minutes by car to Hungary. The next day she has to do business again at 8.45 am. “If the dollar draws in the eyes of the bosses, more than the breaks and family life of the employees, I decided something about it.”
Of course the store operator also has to dig deeper into her pocket. “I pay overtime every day. On August 20 to 100 percent. Or I also accept someone. At a certain point it no longer pays.” Moreover, given that the monthly rent is more than 30,000 euros.
Sales are limited from 7 p.m.
Center manager Mario Schwann knows this: “We strive to optimize opening times in the interest of our customers and to meet different target groups. It is planned to be opened a single evening until 11 p.m. axis is successfully practiced for the pandemic for many years.”
“Yes,” says the store operator. But: “There used to be fashion shows on such days, a brake idem with entertainment. Nothing is known for 20 August.” And: “Before Corona we were locked up at 7 pm .. After that we hardly do any sale.”
