Nelly Korda won by third consecutive week on the LPGA Tour and for the fourth consecutive tournament by defeating Irish Leona Maguire 4 and 3 in the title match of T-Mobile Match Play in Las Vegas.
Korda raced to a 4-up lead on the seventh hole by winning the second hole and then made three straight birdies from Nos. 5 to 7 in Shadow Creek. Maguire’s par on the par-4 ninth was enough to put his rival in the match, as the American made bogey on that hole.
But Korda responded immediately by winning the 10th, and a birdie on the par-4 12th put him at 5 with six to play. Maguire stayed afloat by winning the next two holes with birdies, his second and third birdies of the day, to close the gap to 3 under at four games. But Korda followed up with the winning par putt on the par-four 15th hole.
Korda won the Championship LPGA Drive is on in late January in his hometown of Bradenton, Florida.
