La Gabarra is preparing to celebrate the Athletic Cup title. Earlier this morning, maneuvers began to remove it from the Bilbao Maritime Museum and place it in the waters of the estuary as a preliminary step to the massive celebration that will take place this Thursday.
The legendary boat will be lifted using large cranes in a process that could take several hours. At noon it was on the water, just below San Mamés, ready and willing to welcome the coaching staff and the players, who would receive the award of all the fans stationed on the banks of the estuary.
The Gabarra will sail from the Real Club Marítimo del Abra at half past four in the afternoon and two hours later it will arrive at the Bilbao City Hall bridge. Next will be the official receptions at the Town Hall of the capital of Biscay and the Provincial Council. More than a million people are expected to honor the lions for the Cup they won on Saturday at La Cartuja in Seville after defeating Mallorca in a penalty shootout.
