Anderson Luis de Souza ‘Deco’, sports director of FC Barcelona, spoke to the Movistar microphones before the first leg of the Champions League quarterfinals in Paris against PSG, and referred to the debate on the culé DNA established in between two tie technicians. “Xavi and Luis Enrique are two friends,” said the Barça executive, highlighting the career and way of looking at football that elite coaches with Barça pedigree have.
“It’s a good sign that Barça has a good influence in the world of football. We have four coaches with Barça DNA and a profile of the desire to play football. That’s the important thing,” he emphasized.
Regarding the personal relationship between Luis Enrique and Xavi Hernández after the exchange of statements that took place on Tuesday during their respective public appearances, Deco highlighted that they both “have been together for many years.” “I think Xavi answered the DNA thing, they are friends,” he added.
The Barça executive wants to assess the potential of the Barça squad now that many forecasts show PSG as the favourite.
“We have a great team. We have an important squad, high-level players,” he said. He even referred to the words of culé president Joan Laporta about not changing any Barça player for the ones PSG has. “The president is sending a message to value what we have,” he noted.
Finally, Deco referred to the warm atmosphere that had been revealed in the days leading up to the game. “We know that this is a fan that plays a lot here in Paris. This team has experience and the young people have shown that they have personality. We are prepared,” he concluded.
