Burnley, penultimate in the Premier League, have a very tough time ahead as, with six games remaining, they are six points behind Nottingham, 17th and the first team currently avoiding relegation.
As if the situation wasn’t desperate enough, Burnley received news that further complicated their impossible mission. The English Federation (FA) suspended their coach for two matches, one suspended, Vincent Kompany after being accused of misconduct for his protests to the referee Darren England in the match on March 30 at Stamford Bridge against Chelsea (2-2). In addition, he was fined 11,700 euros. The Belgian coach was sent off in the 40th minute.
Red and punishment
Specific Kompany saw the red card for protesting a penalty awarded in his defense Lorenz Assignon, who also saw a second yellow card in this action, leaving Burnley relegated.
Kompany will start serving his suspension this Saturday against Brighton at Turf Moor. The second match is suspended until December 31st, so if you don’t repeat until that date you don’t have to comply.
Acceptance and apology
“Coach admitted that his language and/or behavior during the 40th minute of the match was inappropriate and/or abusive and/or insulting to a referee and/or questioned the integrity of a referee,” the FA said in a statement .
After the match, Kompany asserted that “the level of refereeing in the Premier League has not been good enough”, although he stated that days later, after the match. He went to the referee’s booth to apologize for the words he said to him.
