Albert Ramos, second seed, and Kazakh Mijail Kukushkin, eighth, meet in the quarterfinals of the Challenger tournament in Madrid after surpassing their respective commitments against the Spanish Oriol Roca and the German Rudolf Molleker.
The German initially surprised Kukushkin who had to recover from the situation and took three sets (6-7(1), 6-1 and 6-1) after two and a quarter hours of play.
Ramos won quickly, although Roca held back his nerves in the first set, which was resolved in a tiebreaker. In the end, the second favorite won 7-6(2) and 6-4 and is in the penultimate round where he will face the Kazakh.
In the other part of the draw, Swiss Leandro Riedi won easily, 6-3, 6-2, against Ukrainian Vitaliy Sachko. In the quarterfinals he will face Brazilian Joao Fonseca, junior world number one in 2023, who defeated Frenchman Harold Mayot, seventh seed, 6-2, 3-6, 6-3.
