Zaragoza celebrates the marathon this Sunday with 7,000 runners

In Zaragoza you can already breathe the air of a marathon. This Sunday starting at 8:30 in the morning, the city will once again shake with the celebration of MANN-FILTER Zaragoza Marathona trial that will reach its record full participation with 7,000 runners.

Your tour of 42 kilometers This is an opportunity to discover and enjoy the city. Expo 2008 Zone, Roman Walls, Paseo de Independencia, Plaza España, the banks of the Ebro and its emblematic bridges… A journey through the history, beauty and charm of Zaragoza, which will have starting point and ending in El Pilar.

At a competitive level, a tight rivalry is expected in between Alex Jimeneznational marathon runner-up last year in Zaragoza and current 50K world runner-up, and Jacetano Alberto Puyelodouble champion of the event and national bronze in the last edition of the event.

Among women, the race will have a luxurious star: Rita Jeptoo Sitienei. Two-time winner of the Boston Marathon and winner of the Chicago Marathon, the 43-year-old Kenyan has set himself a new challenge: to be on top of the podium in Zaragoza. It will be remembered that last year the Cantabrian Irene Pelayo won the national title at the age of 43 on the same stage, showing that age is no barrier to achieving glory.

The big stars of the MANN-FILTER Zaragoza Marathon will have some luxury hares. Red Iago, the recent Spanish 10 km runner-up and current half marathon champion, will act as a hare for his HOKA teammate, Álex Jiménez, to beat last year’s mark: 2h13:20. Meanwhile, the Kenyan will be bolstered by a national 10K road champion, the Burgos woman. Lydia Campowhich will hold its first competition after winning in Crevillente on Saturday.

The best approved 10K in Zaragoza

The 10-kilometer approved test will be another incentive with the two best Aragonese at the helm: Carlos Mayo and Cristina Espejo.

Carlos Mayo will fight on his own, with the aim of breaking the test record (29:34) and become the fastest native of Zaragoza in history in a test held in the Aragonese capital, a record held by Toni Abadía with 29:04. In front of him, he will have a large representation, led by Ivan Manceñidothird best Spaniard in Laredo with an amazing 29:17, winner of the 10K in Zaragoza and San Silvestre de Zaragoza.
