The Bahraini Marius Kimutaiwinner of the Barcelona Marathon in 2023, has been suspended for three years, until 2027, for violating anti-doping rules after “abnormal analytical results in blood and urine samples with the presence of EPO”, as reported this Monday by the Integrity Unit of Athletics.
Kimutai, 31 years old and has also won marathons like those in Rotterdam 2017 and Hangzhou 2019has been suspended since March 28 and all its results since February 2 are considered null and void.
On March 27, the laboratory recognized by World Anti-Doping Agency in Lausanne, Switzerland, reported abnormal analytical results in Kimutai’s blood and urine samples collected in February regarding the presence of erythropoietin (EPO).
“On April 10, 2024, Kimutai returned a signed form confirming that he admitted to the anti-doping rule violations and accepted the claimed period of ineligibility,” according to Integrity Unit in Athletics it is a statement.
