The cyclist and Team Visma team leader, Jonas Vingegaard was released from the hospital on Tuesday after spending twelve days in the hospital at the Álava University Hospital in Txagorritxu.
The Danish roller’s team announced his departure, posing at the hospital door with a smile, his arm in a sling and his thumbs up.
“I want to thank all the medical staff for taking care of me. And I want to thank everyone for their moral support.“explained the cyclist, highlighting all the messages, gifts and drawings received. “It’s entertaining!” he exclaimed, convinced that “the time has come to heal again.”
Vingegaard was one of the most affected by the fall 33 kilometers from the finish line in the fourth stage of Itzulia on April 4.
The accident caused a broken collarbone and several ribs, a collapsed lung and a lung contusion.
Vingegaard fell on the descent of the Olaeta peak, 33 km from the Legutio finish line, in an accident that affected a dozen runners, including the Slovenian leader Primoz Roglic and the Belgian Remco Evenepoel, another of the big favourites.
