Benidorm will once again host the cyclocross World Cup test on January 19

Benidorm will again host a trial of UCI Cyclocross World Cupthe next one January 19as announced this Friday by the organization of the competition.

The city of Alicante will host the test for the third year in a row, again at the end of the calendar, so it will be decisive in determining the champion.

In the two previous years, this competition had great social success, with more than 15,000 spectators on the circuit, and sporting success, as its winners in the men’s category were the two best runners of the moment, the Dutchman that of Mathieu Van der Poel and the Belgian Wout van Aert, while among the women the Dutch woman, Fem van Empel, reigned in both editions.

“Three years ago, people thought we were crazy for organizing cyclocross in Benidorm. Today we show the world that Benidorm, the Costa Blanca and the Valencian Community are the best possible places to celebrate a World Cup of the emerging form of cycling,” he said. For his part, the mayor of Benidorm and president of the Alicante Provincial Council, Tony Perezassessed after the confirmation of the test that the city will again strive to make the World Cup successful again as in the two previous editions.

Pérez emphasized that this is a “top-level and highly international competition” that has a significant economic and image impact for the city.

The test in Benidorm two years ago marked the return to Spain of the UCI Cyclocross World Cup after eleven seasons of absence.

In anticipation of the next campaign, the calendar of the most prestigious cyclocross competition, which will have venues in seven countries, has been reduced from 14 to 12 events to focus its dates on November and January.
