The Chilean Cristian Garín (n.106 ATP) starred in the big surprise of the tournament in Munichon clay, by winning the quarterfinals to German Alexander Zverev, first seed, by doubles 6-4and enter the semifinals.
Two hours of play helped Garin achieve his second victory over Zverev (no. 5), oddly the first in Munich and also in the quarterfinals (2019), on his way to winning the title. In the middle, the German won in Rome (2022).
Two service breaks, one in each set (third, fifth game), closing in on what was his second match point, put Garín into the semifinals in Munich, his second of the year after playing, and losing, in Estoril.
Garín’s opponent in the semifinals is the American Taylor Fritz (n.15)third favorite, who defeated the British Jack Draper (n.46), 4-6, 6-3 and 7-6 (1).
