On Friday morning, a ferry collided with the Naples quay while docking. At least 29 people were injured, one seriously. It is believed that the captain lost control due to a strong gust of wind.
The ferry had previously battled through two-metre-high waves while crossing from the Italian island of Capri to the mainland. At the time of the accident, approximately 100 passengers were on the “Isola di Procida”.
The 29 injured, including many tourists, were taken to hospitals as a precaution. Most escaped with minor injuries, one woman was seriously injured. The G7 foreign ministers have been meeting on the island of Capri in the Gulf of Naples since Wednesday.
Capri is one of the most visited tourist destinations in Italy. During the high season, tens of thousands of people come every day. The crossing from the mainland takes about an hour.
