A decision of VAR nullifying what would have been a painful victory for Chelsea in yesterday’s match against Aston Villa is clearly damaging to the Premier League, the coach of the London team said yesterday Mauricio Pochettino. His team thought they had staged a superb comeback when Axel Disasi scored in second-half stoppage time, but the goal was disallowed after a VAR review penalized Benoit Badiashile’s push in the previous game.
“You, me and everyone in the stadium watching the game, he didn’t see a foul on the field and then the VAR changed the referee’s decision. For me it was a normal challenge in the match. But he decided not to allow the goal and that’s it,” a sad Pochettino told radio station TNT after the 2-2 draw. “For me, the Premier League and English football are a bit painful. If we want to be the best league in the world, we must protect the spectacle and the decision… (it) hurt myself, hurt my team, friends me, to the fans.”
Chelsea trailed 2-0 at half-time but goals from Noni Madueke and Conor Gallagher brought them level before the last goal was disallowed. “Our game was very good and we played very well. It is true that in the first half we conceded easily… but we are playing against Villa, who are fighting for the top four. I am happy with the team and the players. is good, ” said.
