Chris Kima 16-year-old British amateur golfer who plays the CJ Cup Byron Nelson with an invitation from a sponsor, has been the youngest player, since 2015, to make the cut in a PGA Tour event.
Kim finished his second round on Friday with a birdie to sign off on a card of 67 strokes, 4 under par, and finish 135 strokes, 7 under par, allowing him to join the 66 players who made the cutthat 6 under par.
Jake Knapp leads the way with 14 under par and a 128 stroke total.
To find a precedent for similar precocity, we have to go back to Kyle Suppa, who was 16 when he made the cut at the Sony Open in Hawaii in 2015.
At 16 years and seven months, Kim passed Jordan Spieth as the youngest player to make the cut at Nelson.
Spieth was two months shy of his 17th birthday when he made his first PGA Tour start at his hometown event in 2010, finishing in a tie for 16th.
Kim, daughter of a former LPGA Tour player Ji-Hyun Suhis making his debut on the PGA Tour and is the first amateur sponsored by South Korean company CJ Group, which is also Nelson’s title sponsor for the first time.
