The Czech Katerina Siniakova, second seed of the tournament and top favorite to win the trophy after the withdrawal of Emma Navarro, was proclaimed the champion of the Catalonia Open WTA 125 – Torneig Internacional Terres de Lleida after defeating the Egyptian Mayar Sherif (6 /4). 4/6 6/3) in the final played at Lleida Tennis Club.
Mayar Sherif defeated Guiomar Maristany in the semifinals, while Siniakova defeated Camila Osorio. The first three games have made it clear the intensity and parity this rivalry will bring. At 25 minutes, the score was only 2/1 in favor of the Egyptian.
Their tactics are clear. Sherif, aware of how tired her opponent was, sought to tire Siniakova, lengthening the match and moving her from side to side, changing the trajectory of the ball with each hit.
The Czech, for his part, is desperately looking for winners to quickly wrap up the points and take him home. After several games of maximum equality, at 5/4 siniakova broke Sherif’s serve and took the first set 6/4.
The Egyptian did not lower his arms. In the second race, he continued to compete very well and paddled hard to open a hole. He broke free, and with aggressive and ruthless play, Sherif managed to go up 3/0. Now, the Czech has used his experience to re-enter the fray. They managed to break the bad dynamic and turn the score (4/3), getting closer to the baseline and showed their best game to get reaction time from the rival.
In the second set of comings and goings by both tennis players, Sheri was able to close the set with the fifth set point (6/4).
The third set is irregular. Both, physically exhausted, leave everything on the track. Siniakova serves and takes a slight lead (2/0), which Sherif quickly equalizes. The victory in the decisive moments, finally, allowed the Czech to prove the victory and lift the title of champion in this second edition of the tournament.
