From May 10 to 12, the Ibero-American Athletics Championshipwhere Spain will field a team consisting of 28 athletes, 17 men and 11 women.
Among the athletes selected are the 8 current Spanish outdoor champions: Daniela Fra (400m hurdles), A Stancev (height), Arantza Moreno (javelin), Miguel Baidal (10 km route), Ilias FIFA in the 10,000m (although he will compete in the 10 km road), Alex Pi (pole), Diego Casas (disk) and Nicolas Quijera (javelin), as well as other short track champions last winter: A Stancev (height), Isidro Leyva (pol) and Jose Angel Pinedo (weight).
Many new faces appear in the preselection compared to those who fought two years ago at home, in the Ibero-American in Alicante (La Nucía and Torrevieja).
Only six athletes from Alicante will compete in Cuiabá, led by Daniel Cisneros, who will defend his runner-up medal (silver in the 110m hurdles). They also repeat the Championship Manu Quijera (4th in javelin), Iker Alfonso (5th in 400m hurdles), Saleta Fernandez (5th in height), Arantza Moreno (7th in javelin) and Pablo Sánchez-Valladares (8th in 800m).
Furthermore, the presence in the team of the current European under-23 3,000m steeplechase champion, the Madrid native Alejandro Quijada.
Fabián Mesa (long) and Beatriz Álvarez (10 km route) were dropped at the last minute.
The competition will be held at Court of the Training Center of the Federal University of Mato Grosso (UFMT) and, to date, there are 23 countries and more than 450 athletes confirmed.
