The keys to what awaits MotoGP at the Le Mans event

Date:

He Bugatti Le Mans Circuit is ready to receive the Motorcycle World Championship in its best clothes, with no more than a dry climate, no rain forecast for any of the three days of competition, and maximum temperatures between 23 and 25ºc, five higher in the average of the month of May and last year. From the point of view of the weather, it will be a more favorable weekend than the one they had two weeks ago in Jerez and where a priori the Ducati start as favourites.

At 4,185 meters it is the third shortest circuit on the MotoGP calendar after Sachsenring and Cheste, a circuit with strong braking and tight stop&go curves that put the braking system in crisis. Not losing speed at the Dunlop chicane is key to achieving a good lap time. Braking the Garage Vert (8), the Chemin aux Boeufs chicane (9) and the S Bleus (11) were the most demanding, according to Brembo.

In 2023 The Ducati wins it all. Jorge Martín with the GP23 scored the Sprint ahead of Binder and Bagnaia, the author of the pole. The next day Ducati signed a triple with Marco Bezzecchi, this one with a GP22, against the GP23 of Jorge Martín and Johann Zarco. Bagnaia and Viñales were involved in an incident on the fourth lap and ended up arguing with each other, and Marc Márquezwho reappeared after his thumb injury and started second on the grid, fell with two laps remaining as he battled with Jorge Martín for second place.

The 93 seeks this Sunday, even if it is not one of its favorable circuits, to end 931 days without a victory – the latest date from the Emilia Romagna GP in Misano in 2021 -, the longest drought without a victory.

For its part, Ducati will be looking to extend its record of consecutive podiums with at least one rider to 51 and if a Ducati rider qualifies on the front row they will do so for the 65th consecutive GP.

Jorge Lorenzo He is the rider with the most wins with six wins, five in MotoGP and one in 250cc, followed by Marc Márquez’s four (three MotoGP and one Moto2), Tom Luthi (two Moto2 and two 250cc) and Dani Pedrosa (one MotoGP, two 250cc and one 125cc). In addition to Marc Márquez, among those still active, the second most successful is Maverick Viñales with three wins, one in MotoGP, one in Moto3 and one in 125cc).

Honda with 15, Yamaha with 10, Suzuki with 5 and Ducati with 4 are the most successful factories in MotoGP. KTM’s best result, apart from Binder’s second in the Sprint, is still held by Pol Espargaró, third in 2020. Aleix Espargaró’s third place in 2022 is also Aprilia’s best result.
