He Royal and Ancient Golf Club of Saint Andrews (Scotland) “feeling of honor and humility” already noted His Majesty, King Charles III of England, has kindly agreed to be Club Patron which governs world golf affairs with the USGA.
After his accession to the throne in 1952, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II received the patronage of the R&A, which has been received by reigning monarchs ever since His Majesty King William IV in 1834.
Martin Slumbers, Secretary of the R&A, stated in a note sent to the media: “Her Majesty’s patronage of the Club for 70 years is a source of great pride for its Members. We are pleased and deeply honored to be informed by Buckingham Palace that Her Majesty has welcomed His Majesty “The King is the patron of the Royal & Ancient Golf Club of Saint Andrews today and we look to His Majesty to support the work of the Club and our commitment to the sport of golf around the world.
The Royal & Ancient Golf Club was founded in 1754 and has evolved over two and a half centuries to become a leading authority in the world of golf. It has more than 2,400 members worldwide, including some Spaniards.
